Legacy over currency: a reflection at the end of 2024 As we close out 2024, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt appreciation for all of you. Launching the Tech Legacies newsletter has been a dream of mine for quite some time. Being in your inbox is a privilege and I always want to provide you the most value possible for your time and attention. I’m especially grateful for the thoughtful feedback many of you have shared. Your suggestions and feedback make Tech Legacies more impactful and relevant to what matters most to you. Please keep them coming! For this final edition of the year, I’d like to reflect on a theme that’s central to both the podcast and the newsletter: legacy. Gary Vaynerchuk, a businessman and content creator that inspired me to be an entrepreneur has this famous quote: Legacy is greater than currency. So what does this mean? At its core, it’s about prioritizing long-term impact and the contributions we leave behind over the pursuit of immediate financial gain. It challenges us to think about what truly matters:
This philosophy encourages us to focus on purpose, impact, and making a difference in ways that extend far beyond material rewards. It’s a guiding principle that applies to leadership, personal growth, and creative endeavors. And guess what? When you build a true legacy, the currency is a natural by-product anyways. As we turn the page to 2025, I invite all of you to reflect on your own legacy. Let’s continue building meaningful things together. Thank you for being a part of this journey, and here’s to making 2025 even more impactful! Lucy Mariappa: Navigating crises to rise in leadership Rahm Emanuel famously said: “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.” That philosophy has certainly been embraced by Lucy Mariappa, who grew up in India and learned valuable lessons around crisis management from her father who was a police inspector. Since then, she's had 24 years of global experience across 40 countries, in corporate & public sectors, across multiple industries. Here are some highlights from our interview:

Content tip:Repurposing Content Going back to our first story, a key part of building your legacy is having purpose. But this tip is a little different - it’s about how to repurpose your content most effectively. You can watch this short video here. A little inspiration:The next time you're stuck for creative words, use alliterations. This is when several words start with the same letter and produce the same sound. When I was strolling my local Staples store, these books were all lined up a row and they're perfect examples of alliterations. From Crook to Cook. Beautiful Boards. Taco Tuesday. Bar Book. The most important brand in the world… you. Can you guess how many brand messages you see each day? Here’s a hint - it’s a LOT. Researchers estimate that each of us is exposed to 6,000 - 10,000 ads daily. Between social media, search and display ads, emails, and even good old-fashioned billboards and bus stop benches, brands are everywhere. The same holds true for you. While personal branding seems like something we’ve been saying forever, the term itself only goes back to 1997, when Tom...
